Pierre Mendelsohn: Founder, CEO
After a global career with leading financial institutions, Pierre founded ALPIMA in October 2014 to give professional and institutional investors a new service and investment experience focused on systematic investing and asset allocation.
An engineer at heart, Pierre is passionate about science and technology and how they can make finance better for investors. Before founding ALPIMA, Pierre spent two decades on the trading floors of leading investment banks in New York, London and Hong Kong working in management, sales, product development, structuring and risk analysis.
Along with his teams, Pierre has launched numerous investment products and systematic strategies which raised billions of dollars from institutional and HNW clients globally.
Before creating ALPIMA, Pierre was a Managing Director with Morgan Stanley for four years, as head of pan-Asia equity derivatives distribution, financial engineering, and QDS (Quantitative & Derivatives Strategies) based in Hong Kong, and as previously Global Head of Retail Structured Products based in London. Previously he was a Managing Director at Merrill Lynch where he worked for eleven years. Among other things, he ran and scaled Merrill INVEST, Merrill’s securitised products platform in EMEA from 2005 to 2010. Previously Pierre worked in Global Markets and Risk Analytics with Bankers Trust in London & New York, and as a management consultant with Oliver Wyman in New York.
Pierre holds an M.S.E. in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering majoring in Applied Mathematics from Princeton University and an MS in Engineering / Computational Fluid Dynamics from INPG, France. He lives in London with his wife and three children. Marathon runner, instrument-rated pilot and aviation fan.
Ilan Heimann: Head of Sales and Partnerships
Having spent the last two decades in the asset management industry, Ilan is passionate about simplifying investment solutions.
Before joining ALPIMA in November 2015, Ilan was an SVP at PIMCO for over eight years, most recently as Account Manager and Business Developer for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, covering institutional clients. Prior to that he ran PIMCO’s EMEA Structured Product offering and created PIMCO’s Advisory Business, assisting institutional clients across EMEA in dealing with the aftermath of the financial crisis. Previously, Ilan worked for over eleven years at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, in various roles in equities, fixed income and alternative investments. Throughout his tenure he was, amongst other things, responsible for establishing GSAM’s European Equity Risk Management effort, an Equity portfolio construction framework for global equity portfolios, and assisting institutional clients in creating bespoke multi-asset investment solutions.
Ilan holds an MSc in Business Finance from Brunel University and studied Business Administration at Saarland University, Germany, and is a CFA® charterholder. He lives in London with his wife and two children. Keen skier and cyclist.
Anastasia Bikou: Managing Director of Sales
Anastasia joined ALPIMA in May 2018. Before joining ALPIMA, Anastasia worked at Goldman Sachs in London for 9 years, where she was responsible for FX distribution to Institutional Clients across EMEA. Previously, she worked as a Derivatives Trader at the Treasury Division of National Bank of Greece and a Financial Analyst at Merrill Lynch in New York.
Anastasia holds an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School and Bachelor Degrees in Mechanical Engineering & Business Economics from Brown University. She is passionate about travel and photography. She lives in London with her husband and son.
Geoff Langham: Chief Operating Officer
A twenty year veteran in the Finance industry, Geoff brings a wealth of experience from a trading and management perspective. Raised and educated in Canada at Queen’s University, he relocated to London to complete his MSc in Financial Economics from Queen Mary & Westfield, the University of London, and began his career at JP Morgan on their Trading programme. He then moved to Morgan Stanley on both the buy and sell side as an equity trader.
In early 2000, Geoff moved to a then small financial technology firm, CMC Markets, an early adopter of internet trading technology and consumer-lead financial derivatives, where he ran the Trading department and contributed to the company’s rapid growth from 50-1200 employees as a main board member.
In his spare time Geoff is a keen tennis player, skier, husband and father to his three young daughters.
Craig Gibbons: Chief Technical Officer
Craig joined ALPIMA in December 2014 as CTO and is responsible for all technology-related aspects of the firm. Before joining ALPIMA, he was CTO at Credo, a private wealth firm. Previously, he led the development of credit & market risk products at Nomura and before that, he worked with Pierre at Merrill Lynch in London where he was responsible for the architecture, design, development and implementation of the Merrill INVEST platform – a suite of client-facing websites, trading applications and an issuance platform. He has also worked in consulting and started his own software development firm specialising in groupware and internet technologies.
Craig holds an undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Cape Town, a MBA from Cass Business School and is currently studying for a MSc in Software Engineering at Oxford. He has ongoing aspirations to add to his count of marathons and IronMan events.
Ran Achiron: Chief Financial Engineer
Ran is passionate about the intersection of mathematics, technology and finance.
He started to work with ALPIMA in March 2015 and joined the team full-time in June 2015.
Before joining ALPIMA, Ran served as team commander in an elite technological unit in Israel’s Intelligence Corps, where he developed his expertise in network security applications and data-management products. Previously he was involved in the development of state-of-the-art software architecture solutions for several new start-up companies and healthcare institutes in Israel.
He holds an M.Sc. in Finance from HEC Paris and a B.Sc. in Mathematics & Economics from Tel-Aviv University. He lives in London.
